How many delis get featured in Vanity Fair? Well, hidden in Beverly Hills, just a block from the world famous Rodeo Drive is a modest little deli, which on first glance you’d never guest is a hangout for Los Angeles celebrities, producers and agents – Nat n Al’s (414 N Beverly Drive, Beverly Hills, 90210).

This Beverly Hills institution has been delivering up delicious sandwiches with their homemade rye bread that is baked fresh daily, using a unique “double baked” process to make it crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, since 1945. Local legend has it that Doris Day (who lived nearby on Crescent Drive for years) would stop by every day in her dressing gown for breakfast.

The wide menu has something for every budget and taste bud but highly recommended is the Nate n’ Al Sandwich (pictured above) with its delicious Russian dressing and superb coleslaw or a comforting bowl of matzo ball soup. It’s not just the food but the friendly service that keeps this place top of the LA locals favorites every year.

Keep your eye out because you don’t know who you might see at the table next to you at this Hollywood institution that includes Benicio del Toro, Lisa Kudrow, and Steven Spielberg as some of their regulars.
